How to find your world seed in Hytale
A seed is the number Hytale uses to generate an entire world: terrain, biomes, rivers, temples, camps and villages. The same seed always produces the same world. The seed is stored in your world's config.json. This page shows how to find it and preview the world map before you set off exploring.
Where the world seed is stored
Every world has its own folder, and inside it a config.json file with the world settings. That file contains a "Seed" line.
- Singleplayer world on Windows:
%AppData%\Hytale\UserData\Saves\<world name>\config.json. Paste%AppData%\Hytale\UserData\Savesinto the File Explorer address bar to jump to the folder with all your worlds. - Dedicated server:
universe/worlds/<world name>/config.jsoninside the server folder (use your host's panel, SFTP or file explorer).
Step by step
- Close the game or stop the server: while a world is running, the game rewrites its settings files.
- Open the world folder and open
config.jsonin Notepad or any text editor. - Find the line with
Seed. The number next to it is the seed. - Copy the number without the trailing comma, paste it into the "World seed" field on HYSEEDS and press "Show".
An excerpt of the file:
{
"Version": 4,
"Seed": 1791653948620,
"WorldGen": {
"Type": "Hytale",
"Name": "Default"
}
}
The file contains other settings too (world ID, PvP and fall damage toggles and so on). You can leave them alone.
Which worlds the map supports
The map is built for regular worlds whose config.json says "Type": "Hytale" and "Name": "Default", Hytale's standard world generator. Game versions 0.6.8 and 0.7.0 are supported (generator data for 0.7.0 matches 0.6.8; in-game verification is ongoing).
The map does not show instance worlds, flat or void worlds, the alternative HytaleGenerator, or world events such as goblin raids: those appear near the player at runtime and do not depend on the seed.
How to read the map
- Map shows land and water with terrain relief, Biomes shows exact biomes, Zones shows the large climate zones.
- In the "Objects" section, switch layers on and off: spawn, temple, dungeons, Trork, Feran and Outlander camps, Kweebec villages and more.
- Click a marker for a popup with its coordinates, height and biome. You can copy the coordinates or send a friend a link to that exact spot.
- The "Found" checkbox is stored in your browser only and helps you keep track of places you have visited.
Common mistakes
- Copying the comma or quotes. Only the digits are needed.
- The world already exists. A seed describes how a world is generated, but areas that were already generated and saved stay as they were.
- Game version. If the developers change the generator, pick the matching version in the panel or wait for the map to be updated.
- Editing the file while the game is running. Your changes will be lost.
